Today marks International Volunteer Day (IVD), celebrating the theme of “Volunteer for an Inclusive Future”. This year IVD highlights volunteers contributing to inclusion, and Sustainable Development Goal 10, reducing inequality within and among countries.
Volunteering provides opportunities for people, particularly those often excluded, to positively impact their own lives and play a constructive role in their communities by volunteering their time and skills. Through volunteerism, communities around the world often experience strengthened solidarity and inclusion.
IVD is a day of celebration for volunteers to be acknowledged for their action and their value, and to promote their contribution locally and globally. In Australia one in three people engage in formal volunteering activities and programs with many more volunteering informally across a diverse range of sectors.
Don’t forget to share your International Volunteer Day celebrations by using the hashtags #IVD2019 and #Volunteer4Inclusion.
