As part of the development of the National Strategy for Volunteering, Volunteering Australia is leading the Volunteering in Australia research project. During National Volunteer Week, we released an Early Insights report summarising some of the key findings from the Volunteer Perspective.
Volunteers have told us:
- All age cohorts, except young people, are volunteering slightly more than they were 12 months ago, but no cohort is volunteering as much as they did before the pandemic.
- People outside capital cities have a higher rate of volunteering.
- People who are in paid employment are more likely to volunteer than those experiencing unemployment, but as paid work hours increase, hours spent volunteering decrease.
- Nearly half of adult Australians participate in informal volunteering.
