To celebrate Pride Month, we are celebrating the power of volunteering to create inclusive communities as we highlight volunteering organisations supporting LGBTIQ+ communities in this week’s Better Together story.
Volunteering Australia recognises the vital work of QLife providing an Australia-wide anonymous, telephone and webchat peer support and referral service run by LGBTIQ+ peers.
QLife is a free service for those wanting to talk about a range of issues including sexuality, identity, gender, bodies, feelings or relationships.
The most significant partnership within QLife is with the many volunteers across the country who are supported by four Partner Sites; Diverse Voices, Living Proud, Switchboard, and Twenty10 Inc. GLCS. The passionate and skilled volunteer cohort support the service to stay up and running with their time, unique peer knowledge, and enthusiasm for supporting their communities.
‘’We know that peer support and volunteer work is such a crucial part of the history and survival of LGBTIQ+ communities. It has created spaces for individuals to find their chosen families, supported those struggling with isolation and rejection, and forged new ways to celebrate joy. Being connected in this way has supported the notion that we are truly better together; stronger as communities who thrive with the continued generosity of those who share their stories.’’

Happy Pride Month! Thank you to all the organisations who support LGBTIQ+ communities and help to create a better and more inclusive society for everyone.
