An overview of the project:
The Volunteer Management Online Project will create a single, centralised gateway to a curated selection of national tools and resources that support volunteer involving organisations to recruit, train, manage and retain volunteers.
The project envisions a thriving volunteering ecosystem where an online platform empowers organisations and individuals to connect, manage, and enhance the volunteering experience.
The project, funded by the Australian Government, aims to:
- help reduce duplication across various existing online and digital services and provide a more streamlined experience across Australia.
- assist volunteer involving organisations to increase the number and diversity of volunteers, improve attraction and retention strategies, build capability and capacity.
- help make volunteering easier to do and manage.
To achieve these goals, the project will employ a user-centred design approach, actively engaging people that manage volunteers and volunteer involving organisations in the design, development, and iterations of the online platform. An iterative and agile approach ensures the platform remains relevant and effective in meeting the dynamic needs of the volunteering ecosystem.

Thank You and Collaboration
We’d like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has registered their interest and generously contributed ideas, feedback, and expertise over the past few months. Your input has been instrumental in refining the core functions of the Volunteer Management Online Project for its upcoming launch. We are continuing to collaborate with key national and international organisations to bring you access to useful and diverse content that you have identified as valuable to improve the volunteer experience.
Horizon 1 Functionality
We are currently building the core functionality for the project’s first phase, Horizon 1.
This includes:
• Dedicated pages for volunteer management resources, technology solutions, and training opportunities.
• A powerful search function to help users locate their preferred tools and resources with ease.
• Personalised user accounts for a more tailored experience.
• A comprehensive library of content curated from across Australia and around the world, designed to support volunteer management practices.
Collaboration and Content
In this first iteration, we are collaborating with a variety of content providers, technology developers, and training organisations. This ensures that volunteer management practitioners will have access to a diverse range of tools and resources, regardless of their experience level. Whether you’re new to the role or seeking solutions to complex challenges, the platform will cater to your needs.
A Sustainable Future
We are finalising a comprehensive Business Plan that will ensure the long-term sustainability of the project and its ability to continuously adapt to the evolving needs and wants of our users across the volunteering ecosystem.
Marketing and Launch
The development of an inclusive Marketing Plan is currently underway. This plan will guide our efforts to promote the platform to a wide audience of volunteer management practitioners across Australia later this year.
Pilot Project and Growth
We remain on track for a mid-2024 launch of the Volunteer Management Online Project. The first iteration will feature core functionalities as part of a pilot designed to inspire users and provide a foundation for ongoing growth and improvement.
