Meet Amber and Farzana, volunteers for Birth for Humankind sharing their stories about birth and their work with their clients as part of our ‘Share your Story’ Series.
Birth for Humankind volunteers are all professionally trained doulas and come from a diverse range of personal and professional backgrounds including health workers, social workers, student midwives, practicing or retired midwives and doulas who run their own private practices.
Amber’s Perspective: The Joy of Giving Back
”I really enjoy giving back and allowing access to a service that our clients wouldn’t otherwise be able to access. Seeing a birthing person grow in their journey to being a parent is so rewarding.”
Farzana’s Motivation: From Client to Volunteer
”When I was pregnant I had a volunteer doula support me and the feeling working for women who are in need inspired me to become a volunteer.”
Amber’s Insights: The Impact of Support
”It’s so nice to share our skills in the birth space to provide emotional and physical and education support to our clients who are in need during a tough time in their lives.”
Farzana on Emotional Support
”It is so good to support mums during an emotional time, especially when they’re struggling with feelings of loneliness.”
