Read the December VA News featuring the National Volunteer Week 2022 theme announcement, career opportunities and National Strategy for Volunteering update.
This month we announced the 2022 National Volunteer Week theme, Better Together. This theme highlights that together, through volunteering, we are changing communities for the better. We are, Better Together.
I wrote in ProBono about a new Volunteering Australia report, COVID Continuity and change: volunteering during the COVID-19 pandemic, revealing the profound experiences of volunteering during the COVID-19 pandemic.
I also spoke to IAVE and ProBono about the development of the National Strategy for Volunteering and its importance for the future of volunteering in Australia.
We held the Volunteering Australia AGM on Friday 26 November and were pleased to share the 2020-21 Annual Report and Financial Statements. We welcomed three new directors – Kim Hughes, Claudine Lombard and Amy Williams – and farewelled Michelle Ewington from the VA Board. Having served on the Board for eight years, Michelle made a significant contribution to the governance of Volunteering Australia and her leadership was crucial during the transition to an independent Board.
As we come to the end of another busy year, I wish you all a safe and happy festive season.
I’d like to acknowledge the tremendous impact that volunteers have made in our communities throughout the year, particularly in the face of COVID-19 restrictions. I also recognise those who will continue to volunteer over the holiday period, providing essential services and support to those around them.
