Happy World Pride! At Volunteering Australia we are proud allies to the LGBTQIA+ community. As strong advocates for centring diverse voices we have chosen to change our logo to pride colours in honour of Sydney World Pride.
We believe in the transformative power of volunteering in creating inclusive communities.
As Volunteering Australia’s Sarah Wilson said at the 2023 National Volunteering Conference “what makes a good volunteer experience is being welcomed to come as you are to a space where you can contribute your uniqueness, to make a difference to something that you care about, and to construct meaning from that experience in a way that makes you feel like you matter and that you have something of value to add to the world.”
We recognise those in the volunteering ecosystem who demonstrate they are LGBTQIA+ welcoming and ensure volunteering is an inclusive and safe space. We celebrate the role volunteering plays in the LGBTQIA+ community, providing a high degree of community engagement as well as a strong sense of attachment with the LGBTQIA+ community.
We also thank the organisations and their volunteers who support, celebrate, empower and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Together we have the power to make volunteering inclusive for everyone. We are the change makers.
