Meet Leonard, a volunteer at POOPS (Pets of Older Persons), sharing their story as part of our ‘Share Your Story’ series.
Journey with POOPS
“My wife Pam and I moved to Busselton from Perth 5 years ago. Seeing an advertisement for POOPs, we contacted the local coordinator and started straightaway, as I had the necessary qualifications and we both loved dogs. We are now 86, and that is no deterrent to volunteering. Pam doesn’t do all the walks, but we now walk two poodles and a Dachshund four days every week. It keeps us fit, and we enjoy the friendship of our clients. The welcome from the dogs and their owners is priceless, and we shall continue volunteering as long as we can.”
The Joy of Volunteering
“To be a volunteer is a nice feeling; you are doing something for others that does not get a reward in money. The feeling of goodwill and friendship is something you cannot put a price on.”
