Meet Kaye, a volunteer at Code Club Australia, sharing their journey as part of our ‘Share Your Story’ series.
Focus on Outcomes for Kids
“Mostly it is about the outcomes for the kids who come to Code Club. Our Coding Clubs provide children, who have an interest in coding, to learn new skills, meet other kids who like the same things, and to learn from mentors who share the same interest and may even work in this space.”
The Thrill of Watching Kids Learn
“Watching kids learn new skills, create games and animations, and be able to chat with others about their ideas is a great thrill. Even better is when you support kids to work through why some code isn’t working, and they persist and debug until they fix it. Empowering them to become change makers, to be future thinkers, and to have fun while doing it is the best!”
Learning from the Kids
“And my highlight is when one of the kids teaches me something new!”
The Joy of Volunteering
“Volunteering makes you feel good. It’s like building a family with people who share a similar interest to you, and it’s being able to learn, have fun, and engage with people in your community.”
Encouragement to Future Volunteers
“Just give it a go!”
