Meet Maureen, a dedicated volunteer sharing their story as part of our ‘Share Your Story’ series.
A Lifetime of Volunteering
“Volunteers are ordinary people doing extraordinary things, and what rewarding, amazing experiences I’ve had in all areas and places—local, state, and overseas—for over 50-plus years. I started as a young girl with my parents at the local church, sporting events, and school. Then I moved on to Expo 88, followed by many years in conservation, such as counting koalas on North Stradbroke Island, Bush Stone Curlews on Coochiemudlo Island, weed control on remote islands, and so much more in lots of different areas, including op shops, bookfests, and helping the homeless. There are far too many to name.”
Volunteering Passion
“You volunteer for what you are interested in and passionate about, whether it is once a week, once a month, or at a favorite event. As you grow as a person, you give back to the community around you. I know I have introduced a lot of people to volunteering.”
The Impact of Volunteering
“YOU WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE EVERY TIME YOU VOLUNTEER. Go for it; you never know if you don’t try. Giving back to the community is very rewarding.”
