Australian Multiculturalism Through The Prism of (Informal) Volunteering
Volunteering can mean different things to different people and may be influenced by factors such as faith and culture. When people think of volunteering, they often think of formal positions in volunteer involving organisations, but there are also other community activities that are more flexible, unrestricted, and driven by a range of personal values.
The Story Project, a nine-month research project conducted by Volunteering Australia (funded by the Scanlon Foundation), aims to better understand diverse stories of volunteering and highlight how these activities may be unseen within multicultural contexts. The Story Project explores how volunteering helps to build a sense of community in Australia and beyond.
Our goal is to raise awareness and support for informal volunteering by understanding its importance to participants, its relationship with ‘formal’ volunteering, and its contribution towards social good.
